What skills are covered in each level?
Level 1: Your child will attempt to do the following:
- Various issues of safety discussed and understood
- Safe Spot discussed and understood
- Splashes
- Kicks
- Climbing out of pool
- Bubbles
- Push away to back floating position
- Back floating progressions
- Blow Submersion discussed and attempted
- 2-3 second Blow Submersion discussed and attempted
- 2-3 second Free Submersion discussed and attempted
- Seated jumps from safety
Level 2: Your child will attempt to do the following:
- Free Submersion for 2-3 seconds
- Torpedo Pass to Safety
- Push away and Submerge
- Wall climb with assistance
- Climb out unassisted
- Standing jumps from stairs or blocks and submerge
- Pull away and Submerge
- Seated Jumps with Submersion
- Legs kick improving
- Front Floating with head up
- Pull Away from safety into Front Float Position
- Push Away with help to Front Float Position
- Above water passing from parent to instructor
Level 3: Your child will attempt to do the following
- Back Floating progressions
- Free Submersion to Safety
- Wall climb unassisted
- Inhale/exhale as part of pre-bobbing
- Floating independently with noodle or barbell
- Free Submersion to built-in stairs
- Plunge Step 1: Child is able to kick to surface within 3 seconds
- Plunge Step 2: Child surfaces within 3 seconds
- Plunge Step 3: Child surfaces within 3 seconds
- Unassisted standing jumps
- Retrieving objects at the stairs
Level 4: Your child will attempt to do the following:
- Wall climb along safety and exit water
- Kicks becoming straight and controlled
- Paddling used for forward movement
- Bob with proper air exchange
- Blowing bubbles out the nose
- Front floating with head down and breath held for up to 5 seconds
- Streamline to stairs with kicking
- Back float from a standing position
- Push away back glide without kicking
- Back float for 5 seconds, roll over to front float for 5 seconds
- Swim to safety
- Swim to built-in stairs
- Retrieving objects from bottom of pool then float or push to the surface
- 3 submersions with 3 breaths in a rhythmic pattern
- Standing Jump, take a breath, and back float to safety
