At Home Practice Tips
Practice forward full circle windmill arms in front of the mirror. This will allow your child to see proper arm technique for Freestyle.
Have your child balance on their side while lying on the floor. Have them extend one arm above their head with the other arm pressed downward on their side. Both legs should be straight, and shoulders should be pointing upward toward the ceiling. Have them point their head up toward the ceiling as well. This will reinforce proper side glide technique which is utilized for side breathing in Freestyle.
Lay a broom lengthwise on the floor. Have your child stand on one side of the broom and jump forward to the other side. Make sure that your child jumps forward with their chest facing forward and not downward. This exercise will help your child learn to jump into the water without belly flopping.
